Cork flooring is a natural floor made from the bark of the cork oak tree, prized for being soft and warm underfoot, naturally sound-absorbing and eco-friendly. It comes as glue-down tiles or click-together floating planks. Urban Flooring supplies and fits cork flooring across Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Cork comes from the bark of the cork oak. The bark is harvested without felling the tree and regrows over about nine years, which is what makes cork renewable. The harvested bark is ground and compressed with binders into tiles or planks. Cork's structure is full of tiny air-filled cells, and that is what makes it soft underfoot, sound-absorbing and naturally insulating.

Cork comes in two formats. The choice is a bonded, tailored finish versus a faster floating fit.

Traditional cork tiles bonded to the subfloor, offering design flexibility and easy replacement of a single tile if damaged.

Click-together planks, often cork on a stable core, that float over the subfloor for a faster install, including over many existing hard floors.
These natural cork floors sit alongside our timber options in the wider wood flooring range.
Cork's natural-floor sibling is bamboo flooring: choose cork for softness and quiet, bamboo for hardness and durability.
Honest note: cork is a soft, natural surface, so it can dent under heavy furniture or sharp heels, needs sealing to protect it, and is not waterproof. It suits comfort-focused dry rooms. For bathrooms and wet areas it must be well sealed, or vinyl or SPC is the safer choice.
Natural cork in warm honey and amber tones, plus stained and printed options including wood-look and patterned cork, in both tile and plank formats. Finishes are sealed for protection.

Best for comfort and quiet: bedrooms, studies, living areas, home offices, kids' and play rooms. Its sound absorption makes it a strong choice for high-rise apartments. For bathrooms and wet areas it needs careful sealing, and for very heavy-traffic or heavy point loads we may suggest a harder floor.
Cork price depends mainly on format and finish. Indicative supply-and-fit guide:
| Type | Per sqm (AED) | Per sqft (AED approx) |
|---|---|---|
| Cork tiles (glue-down) | 90 to 180 | 8.4 to 16.7 |
| Floating cork planks | 110 to 220 | 10.2 to 20.4 |
| Premium / printed cork | up to 250 | up to 23.2 |
Cork sits near laminate and engineered wood, above basic options and below premium hardwood; sealing is included in our fitting; larger areas attract better rates.

Cork needs a smooth base and proper sealing to perform and last.

Yes, for comfort and quiet. Cork is soft and warm underfoot and absorbs sound well, which suits bedrooms, studies, living areas and high-rise apartments. It is a natural material and not waterproof, so for bathrooms and wet areas it needs careful sealing, or we suggest vinyl. We advise room by room during a free site visit.
Cork is surprisingly resilient and springs back from light pressure, and a well-sealed cork floor lasts around 15 to 25 years, sometimes longer. It is, though, a soft surface, so it can dent under heavy furniture or sharp heels. Felt pads and proper sealing protect it and keep it looking good.
Cork is not naturally waterproof. It is moisture-sensitive and needs good sealing to cope with damp, so for bathrooms and wet areas it must be sealed carefully and resealed over time. Where a space sees a lot of water, we usually recommend vinyl or SPC as a safer choice and say so honestly.
Yes, genuinely. Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak without cutting down the tree, and the bark regrows over about nine years, so the same tree is harvested again and again. That renewable cycle makes cork one of the most sustainable flooring options available.
Yes, it is one of cork's biggest strengths. Cork is full of tiny air-filled cells that absorb sound, so it cuts both the noise inside a room and the sound carrying to floors below. That makes it a strong choice for high-rise apartments and upstairs rooms across the UAE.
Glue-down tiles are bonded to the subfloor, very stable, and let you replace a single tile if it is damaged. Floating planks click together and lay faster, often over an existing floor. Tiles suit a permanent, tailored finish; floating planks suit speed and easier updates. We fit both and advise on your space.
As an indicative guide, supply and fit runs from around AED 90/sqm (about AED 8.4/sqft) for glue-down cork tiles up to around AED 250/sqm for premium and printed cork. It sits near laminate and engineered wood. Format and finish drive the price. Request a free site visit.
Both. Urban Flooring is a supply-and-installation company. One team handles format advice, subfloor preparation, fitting and sealing, so there is a single point of accountability. Cork in particular needs proper sealing to last. Free site measurement comes as standard.
