Microcement floor and wall in a modern Dubai interior

What Is Microcement?

Microcement is a thin, cement-based coating, enhanced with polymers, applied by hand in layers just 2mm to 3mm thick. It creates a continuous, matt, stone-like finish on floors and walls, and can go over existing tile or concrete. Urban Flooring supplies and applies microcement across Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Because it is built up by hand rather than poured or laid, microcement wraps a whole space in one continuous surface, with no grout lines or joints, which is what gives it that calm, contemporary concrete look.

Where Microcement Can Be Applied

Unlike most floor finishes, microcement works on far more than the floor. Its thin, continuous nature lets it wrap a whole space.

Microcement vs Epoxy vs Polished Concrete

Three contemporary concrete-look finishes that get confused. The honest difference:

MicrocementA thin cement overlay, matt, for floors and walls, over almost any surface.
EpoxyA resin coating, often glossy, floors only, and more industrial-grade. See our epoxy flooring page.
Polished concreteThe actual concrete slab ground and polished, not an overlay, so it needs a concrete base.

Colours and Finishes

Microcement comes in matt, natural tones: soft greys, taupe, sand, off-white, charcoal and warmer earth shades, in smooth or lightly textured finishes. The look is contemporary and understated, a concrete or stone aesthetic that suits modern and minimalist interiors.

Why Choose Microcement

Continuous, No GroutOne flowing surface, nothing to stain between tiles.
Thin, Goes Over Tile2 to 3mm, little height gain, less demolition.
Floors and WallsOne finish across a whole space.
Waterproof When SealedSuits bathrooms and wet rooms.
Contemporary LookMatt concrete and stone aesthetics.
Hard-WearingDurable for years with proper sealing.

Honest note: microcement is a decorative finish, not an industrial coating. For heavy industrial floors, epoxy suits better. It is sealed on application and benefits from resealing over time.

Where Microcement Works Best

A contemporary finish for the right spaces, and an honest steer where another floor suits better.

SuitsModern villas and apartments, bathrooms and wet rooms, kitchens and splashbacks, feature walls, plus retail, boutiques, cafes and hotels wanting a contemporary concrete look.
Better with another floorFor heavy industrial use, we recommend epoxy instead, and we will say so.

Microcement Prices in Dubai

Microcement is applied by hand in several coats, so it costs more than a basic coating, but it gives a space a distinctive, high-end finish. Price depends on the surfaces, their condition and the finish. Indicative supply-and-apply guide:

ApplicationPer sqm (AED)Per sqft (AED approx)
Floors150 to 35013.9 to 32.5
Walls / bathrooms / wet rooms250 to 50023.2 to 46.5

Wet rooms and detailed work (niches, curves, multiple surfaces) sit at the upper end; larger areas attract better rates; surface preparation may add to the cost.

How We Apply Microcement

Microcement is a craft finish, applied by hand in thin layers, so the skill of the applicator shows in the result.

Microcement FAQs

Is microcement a good choice for UAE homes?

Yes, especially for modern interiors. Microcement gives a continuous, contemporary concrete look on floors and walls, goes over existing tile with little disruption, and suits Dubai's appetite for minimalist design. It works in living spaces, kitchens and bathrooms. We advise on the right finish during a free site visit.

What is the difference between microcement and epoxy?

Microcement is a thin cement-based overlay with a matt, stone-like look that works on floors and walls. Epoxy is a resin coating, often glossy, used on floors and more industrial in nature. Microcement suits contemporary interiors, epoxy suits high-gloss and heavy-duty floors. We supply both.

Can microcement be used on bathroom walls and floors, and is it waterproof?

Yes. Microcement is ideal for bathrooms and wet rooms, applied continuously across walls, floors and showers with no grout lines. Once correctly sealed, it is fully waterproof, which makes it a popular tile alternative. Proper sealing and detailing around drains and corners is key, which we handle.

How much does microcement cost in Dubai?

As an indicative guide, supply and apply runs from around AED 150/sqm (about AED 13.9/sqft) for floors up to AED 500/sqm (about AED 46.5/sqft) for walls and wet rooms with detailed work. It is hand-applied in coats, so it costs more than a basic coating. Request a free site visit.

Can microcement go over existing tiles?

Yes, that is one of its main advantages. Microcement can be applied directly over sound existing tile, concrete or other stable surfaces, which avoids demolition and keeps height gain to a few millimetres. The existing surface must be clean, stable and properly prepared first.

Is microcement durable, and does it crack?

Properly applied and sealed, microcement is hard-wearing and lasts many years. Because it is a thin cement-based finish, movement in the substrate can cause fine cracks, which is why surface preparation and priming matter so much. We prepare the base carefully to keep the finish sound.

Does microcement need sealing and maintenance?

Yes. Microcement is sealed on application to protect it and make it water resistant, and the sealer benefits from renewing over time, especially in busy or wet areas. Day to day, it just needs sweeping and mopping with a mild cleaner. We provide aftercare guidance on handover.

Do you supply only, or also install?

Both, though microcement is a hand-applied craft finish that needs skilled installation for a good result. Our team handles preparation, the coats and sealing, so there is a single point of accountability. We assess your surfaces and recommend the right approach. Free site visit comes as standard.
