What Is Terrazzo Flooring?
Terrazzo flooring is made from chips of marble, granite or glass set in a cement or epoxy binder, then ground and polished to a smooth, speckled surface. It can be poured in place for a continuous floor or laid as precast terrazzo tiles, and terrazzo tiling suits floors, walls and countertops. Epoxy terrazzo is also known as liquid terrazzo. Types of Terrazzo Flooring
Terrazzo comes in two forms and two binders. Poured in-situ terrazzo is mixed and laid on site as one continuous floor. Precast terrazzo arrives as finished tiles or slabs. The binder is either cement, the traditional system, or epoxy resin, which cures faster, is lighter and carries brighter colours.

The Terrazzo Look
Aggregate sets the character: marble, granite, glass, quartz and mother-of-pearl chips make up most of the surface, in sizes from fine micro-chip to large Venetian-style. Colours run from white, grey and classic black and white to cream, terracotta, blush pink and gold, with bold yellow, green or blue chips. Binder colour and chip mix tune to almost any palette, and divider strips zone colours or set patterns, as well as acting as control joints that decide where movement in the slab shows.

Where Terrazzo Falls Short
Poured terrazzo is a premium, slower install with skilled grinding and polishing, and like all stone it can feel hard and cool underfoot. Precast tiles are the faster, lower-cost route to the look.

Grinding, Polishing and Finish
The finish is where terrazzo is made. After curing, the surface is ground back to expose the aggregate, then polished through successive grits to the chosen sheen, from a soft matt to a high polish, and sealed for protection and stain resistance.
Terrazzo Flooring Prices in Dubai
Terrazzo is priced by system. Precast tiles are the most economical, at around AED 100 to 150/sqm (about AED 9.3 to 13.9/sqft). How We Install Terrazzo
Installation depends on the system. Poured terrazzo is laid wet over a prepared substrate, left to cure, then ground and polished in stages on site. Precast tiles are set on a levelled subfloor, then grouted, polished and sealed, so most of the finishing has already happened in the factory before the tiles arrive.
Poured in-situ
- Base preparation, then divider strips set out as control joints and design lines.
- Terrazzo mix poured, spread and compacted.
- Cured, then ground to expose the aggregate.
- Polished through grits and sealed.
Precast tiles
- Subfloor prepared and levelled.
- Tiles laid and set.

Poured terrazzo takes around two weeks including curing and polishing; precast tiles fit in a few days.
Precast terrazzo tiles are covered by EN 13748-1, the European standard for terrazzo tiles in internal use. It sets how tiles are tested for breaking strength, abrasion resistance and dimensional tolerance, so tiles from different suppliers can be compared on the same basis. Ask for the test data behind any precast tile you are quoted. Poured in-situ terrazzo is mixed on site and sits outside that standard, which is why the applicator's workmanship matters more there.

How long does terrazzo flooring last?
Terrazzo is one of the longest-lasting floors there is. A well-laid, sealed terrazzo floor lasts for decades, often outliving other finishes in the building, and can be re-polished to look new again. Its durability is a big reason it is used in high-traffic public spaces.
Can terrazzo be polished and restored?
Yes. Terrazzo can be re-ground and re-polished to remove wear, scratches and dullness, bringing an old floor back to life, which is one of its great advantages over most other floors. Resealing afterwards keeps it protected. We offer polishing and restoration as well as new installation.
