Classic oriental and geometric patterns in rich reds, golds, greens and blues, the familiar majlis look, often echoing hand-knotted designs. They hide the marks of daily use well and suit a formal, traditional majlis.

A majlis rug is a large loose rug laid for floor-seating in a majlis, the traditional room where guests sit low around the perimeter. It comes in traditional Arabic patterns, modern designs, and custom sizes made to the room, and is chosen for durability and easy cleaning under constant hospitality use. Urban Flooring supplies, custom-makes and delivers majlis rugs across the UAE.
A majlis is a floor-seating room, so the rug is not decoration you walk past. People sit, kneel and lean on it, guests gather for hours, and gahwa and dates are served over it. That changes what matters.
A good majlis rug is large enough to sit within the perimeter seating, comfortable to sit on directly, and made from a fibre that takes heavy barefoot traffic and cleans easily after spills. Looks matter, but a majlis rug that stains badly or flattens after a season is the wrong choice, however handsome. We choose the rug around how the room is actually used.

Plainer fields, softer neutral tones, subtle borders and contemporary geometry, for a majlis styled to a modern villa interior.

Any size, shape, colour and border, produced to your majlis dimensions. Because majlis rooms are large and often non-standard, this is the most common choice, and we cover it in full on our custom majlis rugs made to your dimensions page.
A majlis rug should sit inside the seating line, framing the floor cushions or low seating rather than disappearing under them or leaving bare floor on show.
Because majlis rooms are larger than living rooms, majlis rugs skew large. Common sizes run from around 300 x 400 cm (about 9'10" x 13'1") for a modest majlis, through 350 x 500 cm (about 11'6" x 16'5"), up to 400 x 600 cm (about 13'1" x 19'8") and beyond for a large villa majlis. Many majlis rooms are L-shaped or run around three or four walls, which is exactly where a standard rug leaves gaps and a custom size becomes the only clean fit.
The reliable way to size one is a free measurement, so the rug lands right the first time.

Most majlis rugs we supply are made to measure, because the room, the seating layout and the shape rarely match a standard rug.
We measure the majlis on site, agree the size, shape, pattern, colour and border, confirm the specification in writing, then produce and deliver the finished rug and place it within the seating. Full detail is on our custom majlis rugs made to your dimensions page, and you can browse our full rug range for other styles.
The two get confused, but they are different products for different rooms.
A majlis rug is a loose rug for a home majlis. It lays over your existing floor, can be moved, cleaned or replaced, and is sized to the seating. It is sometimes loosely called a majlis carpet, but it is a rug, not a fitted floor.
Mosque carpet is fitted, wall to wall, in prayer halls, woven with prayer rows (sujjadah lines) that mark and align each worshipper's place, and installed permanently. If you need a fitted prayer-hall floor rather than a loose majlis rug, that is a different product, covered on our fitted mosque carpet page.
Enough to sit inside the seating line without leaving bare floor on show. Most majlis rugs run from around 300 x 400 cm (about 9'10" x 13'1") up to 400 x 600 cm (about 13'1" x 19'8") or larger for a big villa majlis. L-shaped and wall-lined majlis rooms usually need a custom size. A free measurement confirms it.

Yes, and most majlis rugs are made this way. We measure the room on site, agree the size, shape, pattern, colour and border, confirm it in writing, then produce and deliver the finished rug. Custom is usually the right call, since majlis rooms are large and often L-shaped or wall-lined.
For heavy hospitality use, a hard-wearing wool or a good synthetic performance fibre works best: both take constant barefoot traffic and clean up after gahwa and food. Pure silk looks beautiful but is delicate and hard to clean, so we usually steer clients away from it for a working majlis. We advise per room.
Match the rug to the room. A traditional, formal majlis suits classic Arabic and oriental patterns, which also hide daily marks well. A majlis styled to a modern villa suits plainer fields and neutral tones. Both are available ready-made or custom, and we bring samples so you can see them in the space.
Vacuum regularly, blot spills straight away rather than rubbing, and rotate the rug so wear and sunlight fall evenly. Gahwa and food spills come out best when dealt with immediately. Wool and silk need professional cleaning; most synthetics tolerate gentler washing. We give care guidance for your specific rug on delivery.
As an indicative guide, large machine-made synthetic majlis rugs start from around AED 1,200, mid-range wool and blends typically run AED 2,500 to 8,000 by size, and hand-knotted premium pieces run higher again. Size, material and custom shaping drive the price. See our flooring cost guide, or request a free measurement for an exact quote.
Yes. We deliver across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE, and place the rug within the majlis seating rather than leaving it at the door. For large majlis rugs, our team positions and settles the piece so it lies flat and sits correctly around the cushions or low seating.
