Artificial grass, also known as artificial turf, astro turf, fake grass or synthetic grass, is a synthetic turf that looks and feels like a natural lawn without watering or mowing. It is laid over a prepared sub-base in gardens, or straight over tile and concrete on balconies and terraces.
Sometimes called artificial grass carpet or fake lawn, it needs no watering or mowing, while outdoor carpet is a flat, weather-resistant floor covering for terraces and balconies. Landscape-grade turf is the realistic option for gardens, lawns and play areas, in pile heights from 10mm to 40mm. Balcony and terrace grass carpet is a lighter turf laid straight over tile or concrete with no sub-base. Outdoor and patio carpet is a flat, non-grass finish for seating areas and decking.

UV performance is testable, not just a claim. Synthetic outdoor surfaces are exposed to artificial weathering under EN 14836, a xenon-arc test that measures how much colour and strength a turf loses after accelerated sun exposure. It is worth asking a supplier for that result, because it is the difference between a lawn that is still green in three summers and one that has gone grey and brittle.

How We Install Artificial Grass and Outdoor Carpet
Installation differs by application. We handle both. Ground-level turf needs the full build-up: ground preparation, a weed membrane, a compacted sand or aggregate sub-base, then the turf laid and joined, sand infill brushed in and the pile brushed up. Balconies and terraces need none of that. The turf is cut to fit, laid over sound tile or concrete, edge-fixed, and the drainage falls checked.

Hotter than a real lawn, because there is no evaporation to cool it. In direct afternoon sun a turf surface can become uncomfortable underfoot, the same way a paving slab or decking does. How do you clean and maintain artificial grass?
Very little upkeep is needed. Hose it down to clear dust and sand, brush the pile occasionally to keep it upright, and rinse after pets. No watering, mowing or fertilising. In Dubai's dusty climate, a monthly rinse keeps it looking fresh.
